Hi!
My name is Kate Clarity. I’m the author of the Walnuts n Pears blog and owner of Walnuts n Pears, LLC. I was born and raised in the Twin Cities (Minnesota). I’m a Certified Urban Farmer and a Landscape Designer with a passion for organic gardening, edible landscaping, healthy eating and mindful, sustainable living.
My passion for gardening and food started as a child and has led me to become an avid gardener, enthusiastic cook and veracious eater. My love of plants can be seen by my many experiments, whether it’s cuttings on the windowsills, growing something new from seed or trying my hand at grafting. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experiences with people of all ages, whether through writing, story-telling or in a class format.
The name Walnuts n Pears stems from a 17th century English proverb, “Walnuts and pears you plant for your heirs.” This proverb encourages us to be mindful of how we live and be conscious of what we are leaving for future generations. In other words, it encourages us to live sustainably.
The concept for Walnuts n Pears originally started as a vision to open a physical space for people to access information on all things related to living a centered, healthy and fulfilling life. In March of 2011 phase 1 began when Walnuts n Pears (the blog) was launched. The goal was to have a virtual space to share information on landscaping, gardening, eating, cooking, harvesting, preserving, and healthy, mindful living.
